So I've changed my mind and figured maybe I'd post once a month ;-). And lo and behold it's the middle of October. For most of the past month I just wasn't really feeling the fall/new season/back to school/reinvigorating vibe that seems to be infusing the people all around me. Probably partially because it hasn't seemed like fall yet, what with the 20 degree plus continuing weather.
But after spending part of the Thanksgiving weekend at the cottage stacking wood, raking leaves and doing other fall-y stuff and (starting to) pull out the fall clothes this weekend I think it's officially hit me.
So what's been going on in my life the past month you ask?
The Coolest Thing
Thanks to my friend Vickie, I got to spend a Sunday afternoon in a recording studio doing my best Supremes impression as a backup singer. Serena Ryder, who is an amazing singer, is releasing a Christmas song? album?? and I got to record some clapping and backup singing of the chorus with about 7 other people. Anyone who has sufferred through a long drive with me belting out along with the ipod should know what a dream come true this was.
The Most Fun Thing
Melanie hosted the 5th? annual girls dinner at her place with an incredible meal (as usual) with a lovely Tuscan theme, which also happenned to coincide with nuit blanche. We ate too much, drank too much, laughed too much and then tried to caffeinate ourselves with Rockstar coolers before heading out on the town to check out some art. I was unfortunately pretty underwhelmed with the whole nuit blanch experience. I think they could have improved it a lot by having everything a bit closer together and not sprawled out across the city. At least we got to see Denise's roommate perform ;-)
The Most Fortuitous Thing
Had a visit from my once semi-roommate Tanja to be my roommate for a week while she worked from the office here. It was great to catch up without as much rushing as usually happens when she's in town. We went to see The Drowsy Chaperone on it's return through Toronto to kick off the North American tour, had a couple dinners out, a fabulous brunch/shopping day and managed to catch a few of the fall tv premieres.
The Most Distracting Thing
So, I've been told a time or two that I really should be working in the entertainment business instead of my actual job because it's really what I'm passionate about. If only I could figure out a way to do that and still pay the mortgage. Anyhoo, enter tvbigshot (http://www.tvbigshot.com/), basically a fantasy league for television geeks. You get a $300million budget to acquire shows to start and then rack up points for overall ratings, timeslot wins, magazine appearances, ratings growth etc. and increase the value of your network if the value of the shows increases which allows you to sell them and buy others. (I'm currently ranked in the top 3% btw)
The Most Boring Thing
Oh yeah, work. Well it was the 'finalize the business plan' month which meant team reviews, planning overhead budgets with all the VPs, and oh forget it I'm bored just typing this. Suffice it to say the plans were presented and went well and I was able to cross a big 'to do' off the list.
That's about it folks. Join me next month when I'll likely be reporting on my last wedding of the year, a probable trip to the cottage for the leaf raking extravaganza and a possible trip to Buffalo to spend some hard earned Cdn$.
